Audi have said that the Audi A3 Sedan will be arriving in North America in the year 2014. Pleasing many fans with the news, Audi’s annual press conference had confirmed that the car will hit showrooms two years from now.

Mike Rockenfeller, an Audi race driver in the Le Mans series showcased the Audi A3’s features with a 3D demonstration. After Mr Rockenfeller had completed his demonstrations, both variants, which were a diesel and a Quattro were covered up.

The sedan suited better to the big markets

The Audi A3 sedan was revealed last year at the Beijing Motor Show. It attracted plenty of attention and received many fans. There has never been a sedan version of the popular Audi A3 before. The sedan version of the car will be more suited to the American car market compared to the standard hatchback.

Chinese motorists will also be more suited to sedans when compared to hatchbacks. Audi’s are the number one luxury car manufacturer in China, the world’s largest car market. The Audi A3 sedan is sure to help the German company maintain their position at the very top.

Audi came third last year in America in the premium car sales charts. They are however the fastest growing luxury car maker in the world’s second largest car market. The Audi A3 sedan, when released next year, could help them propel even further and compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

The American market will receive a 2.0 litre petrol and diesel variants of the Audi A3. Both will come with dual clutch and manual transmissions. There will be front wheel and Quattro all wheel drive systems offered too.

This will differ to the European market, with petrol and diesel ranges coming from 1.4 – 2.0 litres. Every variant will feature direct injection and forced induction.

It is unknown whether the plug-in hybrid version will eventually be put into production.

MMI infotainment

As always, the Audi A3 comes with a beautifully laid out interior. Inside the cabin comes a new redesigned MMI infotainment system, which we have previously discussed when it was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012. This system comes with Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Earth navigation and Google Search.

It will be the first Audi model to contain the Modular Transverse Toolbox (otherwise known as MQB). This is a shared platform which will be rolled out amongst all Volkswagen Group models in the future.
