For the first time ever, the Audi A3 as well as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class is set to appear at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new 2013 versions of the European based small cars will be showcased at the event and are sure to receive plenty of attention.
The new Audi A3
Fans have already had a sneak peak of the Audi A3 at the Consumer Electronics Show. The brand new Audi A1’s interior futuristic type of design will also be adopted within the new generation Audi A3. Audi’s new MMI Touch infotainment interface system will be installed within the car too which will be a great treat for A3 fans. It will itself be modelled as a 2013 version with a new five door Sportback traditional sedan version.
Cylinder deactivation
There will also be a new 1.4 litre turbocharged inline four engine that also has the intelligent system of cylinder deactivation. This turns off cylinders depending on the overall speed of the vehicle so there is as much fuel efficiency as possible.
There will be a three cylinder turbo diesel together with various variants of diesel and four cylinder petrol engines ranging from 1.2 to 2.0 litres.
New safety features
New safety and practical features are also set to be installed. These include traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise along with a self parking system.
Audi S3 and RS3
At the very top end of the range the Audi S3 will get a turbocharged 2.0 litre 280 BHP and the RS3 is set to get a new turbocharged 2.5 litre inline five engine and a Quattro all-wheel drive system. The two transmissions on offer will be the manual and S-tronic dual clutch.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz’s new shape resembles that of the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series hatchback, with the company sending out a clear message.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class engine choices consist of an economical 1.8 litre turbo diesel and 1.6 litre petrol. Start stop technology will be made available as standard. There will be a choice of manual or seven speed dual clutch transmissions. The A25 AMG which will be the car’s most powerful variant will be able to produce 250 BHP from its 2.0 litre turbo four engine. As an AMG, there will be more advanced features with the likes of suspension and wheels.
Rivals
The Volkswagen Golf VII will receive some great rivalry from the two new luxurious models. This is set to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show.
