You might say Audi is using ‘humour’ to sell its new tech in a forthcoming multi-million pound ad campaign. Of course, that depends whether or not you find clowns funny.

The German car company’s new commercial has clowns causing mayhem on the roads; Audi’s safety tech such as adaptive cruise control, park assist and rear view cameras help the savvy Audi drivers stay safe while sharing the roads with the circus comics.

The ad is the work of award-winning director Ringan Ledwidge, who was responsible for the firm’s impressive “Duel” advert in 2016.

“Clowns” will debut on 1 October during Victoria on ITV. It will also be the first ad to be shown at the British Film Institute in London ahead of the screening of the main feature film.

Audi has used a cover of the classic Sondheim song Send in the Clowns, performed by Lisa Hannigan.
